About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

American citizen visiting china

Hi, I am an American citizen visiting my boyfriend in Seoul South Korea this summer. We are hoping to visit China for a week, do I need an alien registration card to obtain a visa? What steps do I need to take as we plan our trip?

Yes, registration card is needed to obtain a visa for a third coutry citizen in Seoul. A single entry China visa is valid for 3 months after issuance, if time permits, you can apply for it in US before leaving. For example, you plan to visit China on 1st August, you can apply China visa in May in US.

The other option for you is to first visit HK (you need no visa to HK), and then apply a mainland China visa there at the Office of the Commission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of P.R.C. in HKASAR.
