I might travel to China, Can I get a visa just in case I am going with my extended family?

I am a US citizen whom will be traveling to Singapore for a visit in July and might stop by China(not plan) yet in between my trip. Can I get a visa just in case I am going with my extended family.

How many stops you will transit in China? How many hours is the transiting time you will spend in China? If you transit two or more stops, or if you have to stay in China over 24 hours, all of you need visa. For tourism, you need to get a visa in advance according to your entries.
