About:China Visa

I hold a Z-visa that is about to expire. Am I eligible for a 3-month, continuous stay visa?

From my Internet research, I have read that Z-visa holders are able to extend their stays in China via a 1-month L visa. However, I would like to apply for an entirely new tourist visa that would let me stay for 3 months more.

-What are the chances of my being able to successfully obtain a 3-month tourist visa if I've been living and working in China for the past year?
-Must I travel to Hong Kong in order to do this? (I'm currently in Shanghai.)
-Is there any way I can start applying for this 3-month L visa BEFORE my Z-visa expires? (I read that a new visa would cancel any pre-existing visa).

Any help would be appreciated.

If you want to apply for a China visa without exiting China, you will have to find a reliable visa or travel agency to do it for you. Yes, once you applied for a new visa, your original visa will be cancelled automaticall. So you may apply for an extension of stay on your opriginal Z visa first, and then apply for a new L visa during the extension period.

One thing to mention, if you will just apply for a new China tourism for sightseeing in China, I'm afraid you won't be given such a long duration of 3 months even if you wor and live in China in the past year.
