Do I need visa to transit overnight in Beijing?

My wife and I are both Canadian citizens who need to overnight in Beijing for a total of 14 hours between flights on Feb 17/13 We plan to stay at a hotel close to the airport. Do we need a Visa?

If you will go out of the airport, transit visa is required.
