About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Temporary residence permit

I have been offered a position at a university in hangzhou, however the university is in a different part of the city from where I plan to live with my partner (he will have an apartment provided by his work). The university has said that I will have an apartment on campus. One of the teachers working there said that the police check where foreigners are living. Will I need to be living at the university? What are the rules concerning where you live for Temporary Residence Permit holders? Do the police check that you are actually living in the place you say you live? What are the consequences if I live in another part of the city for half/all of each week?

In principle, you should live at the university, since you will register your residence at the local public security bureau where you will work. The local police may check your living status unregularly. However, you may live at your partner's some time, but not for all the time. Once you were found out that you lived there without the residence permit of there, you may have troubles.
