Soft sleeper for 3 people from Beijing to Xian

We, family of 3 adults- planning to travel from Beijing to Xian by train- in a Soft Sleeper sompartment. As there are 4 bunks, will the 4th bed be given to another person?. or will we have to pay for all 4 bunk beds anyway.)
