Booking rail tickets

My corporate client arrives Shanghai (PVG) at 4PM & needs to get to Jining or Jinan that evening or next day Mar 25. Then he needs to travel to Hangzhou late day Mar 27. Are there high speed trains on these routes & is he advised to book in advance & purchase tickets?

Many G trains of Shanghai/ Nanjing/ Hangzhou operate daily. Yes, they can purchase the train tickets the day they depart.
