About:Chinese Pottery

Chinese shiny necked vessel found in old dump in Bakersfield.

In 1983 I was working as a construction inspector in Bakersfield California. The project I was on was digging out a old dump so the ground could be compacted and a building could be built on it. I know the last time anything was dumped there was the end of the 1940s. As the equipment dug out these 20 ft. wide X 20 Deep slots of garbage out I was finding hundreds of old bottles. One day the loader dug into a section and this vase rolled down right between my feet. It was 6 iches tall, the bottom was 3 inches wide and bubbles out to 5 inches and then went to a thin neck at the top. It was some kind of dark brown glazed stoneware with chinese writting on the bottom. I have had this for many years now and could never find anything on it untill I went to Gotheborg.com and there was a title called Chinese black shiny necked vessel found on north california coast. I went to the page and there it was a picture just like the one I had found. It said that it came from the South Chinese coast, Canton or Fujian province and was most likley brought over at the time of the gold rush and rail road workers at the end of the 19th century. This makes sence because Bakersfield is next to the mountians where there was many old gold mines. The only thing it did not say was how much it was worth. It has a couple of small chips on the bottom but looks great. I was just wondering if I should keep burning incense in it or sell it. Any help on the value would be great. Thank You.
