About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

I would like to transit through Beijing.

I would fly with 2 different airlines and need to clear customs and retrieve my baggage. Then check in with the new airline. I would not need to walk out the door of the airport however i would need to go from arrivals to departures. Would I need a transit visa or not?

You don't need a transit visa if the stopover at Beijing airport is less than 24 hours, just show your flight ticket itinerary and valid passport to the immigration officers when you clear customs, it will stamp a transit label on your passport.
