F Visa to Residence Permit

I am an USA citizen with a F Visa - 60 days - M entries. I need to stay here longer than 60 days at a time. I am in process of getting my Residence Permit but I am being asked to provide a "Criminal Record". Has anyone provided one before to the labor bureau? Not sure if they need an FBI, or local police station print out? Problem is I can't get a record from California without being there. Any suggestions?

If the local Exit-Entry Administrative Bureau of Public Security Bureau ask you to provide the Criminal Record for the residence permit application, you have to provide it, otherwise, your application will be denied. The criminal record from a local police station is ok.

If you feel that it is complex to get the Criminal Record for residence permit application, you can exit China on the 60th day of stay duration, you can go to Hong Kong or Macau, then return to Mainland China for another 60 days stay duration.
