Flight is a requirement for business visa, what happens to the ticket if visa application is refused

Applicants are advised to apply for a visa about one month ahead of the departure date in order that they have time to deal with any unexceoted problem. If your application is refused, what about the date of the air ticket? If the ticket is for a flight in several days, you can still use it to submit your visa application again; If the ticket will expire, you can return it and buy another.
