Visa to Hong Kong and Guangzhou

we will be travelling to guangzhou in early may 2012 for 4 days.We also plan to go to Hongkong for a day trip by train thru Guangzhou east railway station.Do we need to apply visa to enter hongkong and what types of documents that require to apply visa to guangzhou and hongkong?
