with a student visa x, can i travel inout of china?

I recently applied for a student visa X for my student exchange studies in China. But if I were to travel other countries during that period of time, do i need to renew my visa? Is student visa X considered as a single-entry visa?

Upon arrival at China with the student visa within 30 days, you will need to change it to a temporary resident permit. The temporary resident permit funtions as a multiple-entry China visa and you can travel in and out of China with it unlimitedly within the valid period. DON'T go out of China before changing the student visa to a temporary resident permit.
