Getting an extension on my Temporary Residency Permit without the support of my previosu employer.

I am currently in China trying to get n extension on my Temporary Residency Permit. My first school, without explaining fully to me, obtained my original residence permit through an agent. The agent has since vanished so there is no way to locate him or get paperwork from him in order to apply fro a new visa or residents permit. My old company and new now seem to be unsure how to progress. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thankyou for the answer, I think though I have worded my original question incorrectly. My new company are attempting to apply for the Z visa presently. The government however will not accept this application without paperwork from my previous employer. Officially my original employer was this agent who has now vanished and no-one can track down. I need a way to get the Z visa without needing to obtain the paperwork from this agent as locating or contacting him has proven impossible after several months of searching by me, my first school and my new school. Thanks

I wrote before but worded my question incorrectly. I wish to work in China for the second time in my life. The first time I worked here my company was not very good and I found out they had obbtained my visa through an agent. This agent has since vanished and I recieved no peperwork from him. In order to apply for a letter of invitation my new compnay need to send in paperwork, a stamped reference letter and proof of completion of my initial contract. These documents it now seems are im possible to get. I need to know if there is any other paperwork or method to get an invitation and Z class visa without the paperwork from my first employer. Thanks

If the present Temporary Residency Permit you hold is still the one obtained by your previous employer, you can't get an extension on the permit without the support of your previous employer.

Your new company has to start the process of work visa application, first obtain the alien employment license and official invitation letter from Foreign Affairs Office or Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, then you apply for a work Z visa in your country or Hong Kong, after holding Z visa to enter China, change it into a Temporary Residence Permit.

Adam, now I know your meaning, without a stamped reference letter and proof of completion of your initial contract, your new employer can't get the official invitation letter for you. Please don't worry about the vanish of the agent which made all paperwork for your last job. You can contact your previous employer and ask him to issue you the stamped reference letter and proof of completion of your initial contract. Your previous employer can issue the two documents by themselves.
