Does a Canadian need a transit visa?

Hi, my son is arriving from Vancouver to Beijing on 20th Dec and will be leaving for Burma the next day via Kunming. I am wondering if he heeds a transit visa or not as he stays in China for 27 hours in total. He holds Canadian passport.
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

A transit visa is required because he will transit two cities within Mainland China for more than 24 hours, Beijing and Kunming.
