Is it possible to travel to Hong Kong and Beijing from Thailand on a South African passport?

I am a South African national, living and working in Thailand. Is it possible for me to travel to Hong Kong and Beijing from here? Can the South African embassy in Thailand assist me with obtaining a visa for The People's Republic of China?

You don't need a Hong kong visa if you'll stay there for less than 30 days.
You need to go to China embassy or consulate in Thailand to obtain a China visa.
