To update my Hong Kong ID card (Asked by Elaine)

Hello, I am hold an old Hong Kong ID card and would like to update the old card to a new smart card. Can I apply the smart card in The Commissioner of China Office in Vancouver, Canada?
I heard that I have to apply for a HongKong Passport at the same time in order to apply for the smart card. Is that true?
Thank you.

Yes, it is true that you have to apply for a Hong Kong passport at the same time in order to apply for the smart card. Chinese consulate in Vancouver doesn't accept the individual Hong Kong ID card application renewal.
