How is Shenzen & Guangzhou like during Chinese New Year 2012?

My family and I plan to go to Shenzen & Guangzhou during Chinese New Year (2nd day to 8th day) 2012. However, we doubt that a lot of places like windows of the world, wholesalers, restaurants etc will be closed during this period. People in my country used to say this statement.. "Do not travel to places with majority of Chinese during Chinese New Year else you will return with disappointment. You have difficulty to find food too!".

Could you let us know the condition of this 2 places during Chinese New Year? This will be the 1st China trip for my family so I would like them to have a memorable 1st time.

Thank you.

Window of the World will still open but wholesale markets will be closed. Some restaurants are still in operation. Small restaurants will be closed. Yes, food will be a problem. Supermarkets are all open.
