I would suggest you ask several other agencies and choose one base on their price, service and itinerary. I think it is not problem for you to get around by your own. It only takes 5-6 hours by train. Kid below 1.2 meters high is free of charge. Book a hotel online and Beijing subway system is convenient with clear English instruction or you can just take taxi. For some places far away, such as Badaling, there is train from the city center. Hotel is easy to book online. You just need to do some work to plan your travel.

Hi,i am also staying in Shanghai and travelling to Beijing during this Oct holiday with my wife and daughter (3 yrs old).I boooked the hotel online and travelling by G High Speed Train. I think subway is very conveient over there.. English may not be a big problem.
