If you intend studying in China, you should apply for a student visa. There are two types of student visas: F visa, which allows you to stay in China for up to 6 months; X visa, which allows you to stay more than 6 months in china. But both the visas don't allow you to work in china. If you want to work, you need to get permission from your school. It's the rule. But if you work without being found by the authority, there will be no problem either.
