About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

How to apply for a Residence Permit when someone is Already holding an F-visa in China?

Hi, My husband entered into China with a valid F Visa he obtained in the past and started to work for a new company in China. Since his visa requires him to leave China after a 60-day stay, he just left China to conduct business in Taiwan. His employer has obtained a "Confirmation Letter of Invitation" and "Working Permit for Foreigners" for him. Travelling with those two documents, he was instructed to stop by Hong Kong and have the documents "stamped" to show that he entered into China through Hong Kong as indicated on the letter of invitation. He is very confused as to whether to get stamped when he enters Hong Kong or leaves Hong Kong. So, the question is HOW MANY STAMPS ON WHAT DOCUMENTS AT WHICH POINTS? He's registered with the local police and had a physical exam. I wonder whether anybody with the same experience can shed some light on his situation. Many thanks!!

China Work or student visa holders are able to apply for a temporary residence permit in China. F visa holders are not required to get this permit. In your husband case, he needs to apply for a work visa with "Confirmation Letter of Invitation" and "Working Permit for Foreigners", from visa office in his home country or region/country which is indicated in the invitation letter. So, where is he now?

Thanks for the reply, Joe. My husband is in Taiwan right now. Hong Kong is the location indicated on the Letter of Invitation.

When he enters Hong Kong, his passport will be stamped by the immigration officers, the "Confirmation Letter of Invitation" and "Working Permit for Foreigners" would not be stamped. Your husband can take the two documents to Commissioner's Office of China Foreign Affairs Ministry in Hong Kong to apply China visa.
