You and your wife need to apply a transit visa in avance because you stop over 24 hours at the Beijing airport. You can try to get it in Thailand.

A transit visa is also required even though you stay less than 24 hours in the airport because you will go out of the airport.

If you remain in the airport, a transit visa is not required.

in some instances the airport immigration officials issue a 'Stay Permit' for transit under 24 hour. But it is not 100 percent sure you will get it. So, you'd better apply in advance through Chinese embassy or consulate in Thailand.
