buy train tickets in advance

Question

Hello!  We plan to travel from Beijing to Shanghai via the new bullet train.  I have a friend in Beijing who will buy the tickets for my friend and I.  Then he will then send it back to us here in manila along with our invitation letter for our visa application.   Can we buy the tickets 2 months in advance?  Do we need to send him our passports or will a scanned copy do?

Train tickets in China can only be booked at most 10 days in advance commonly. You don;t have to send your passports to China for the purchase of train tickets.
