About:China Transit Visa

I have a 9 hour stopover in Beijing, can I leave the airport to see the city without a transit visa?

Hi, I have read conflicting information about this; some say I need a visa, others say you are allowed to travel as a transit passenger without a visa. I am a UK citizen, travelling from Australia to Sweden.

You need a transit visa if you want to leave the Beijing airport to visit the city. If you really don't want to get it in advance, you can try to apply for 24 hours stay permit when you arrive in Beijing airport by showing the confirmed flight tickets. If you get it, you can leave the airport, otherwise, you have to remain there to wait for the connecting flight.
