Can I play my dvds from america in chinese dvd players?

I will be residing in Jiangsu for one year with my son while teaching English at a chinese kindergarten. I want to bring my son's dvds with us, and buy a dvd player when I get there for use in our apartment. Will I be able to play our dvd's on a chinese bought player?
