M Entries on Visa

I'm going to beijing for the summer and my visa has M listed under entries and a 90 day maximum stay... Does the M stand for multiple entries? My stay is 97 days, so this means that I can leave and re-enter China without a penalty, right? Thanks!

Yes, M stands for multiple entries. You can leave and re-enter China without a penalty. The maximum stay is 90 days per entry, you have to exit China when the 90 days stay duration is up, then re-enter China for another 90 days stay duration.
