About:Chinese Consulate in Chicago

Can I have an overnight stay in Shanghai without a transit visa?

I will land in Shanghai at the Pudong Airport at 3:00pm on 5/30/11. I wish to sightsee in Shanghai until 8:00am 6/1/11 with my relative and his Chinese friend who both live in Shanghai. How do obtain a temporary visa at the Pudong Airport?

USA nationals are not allowed to get a visa on arrival in China. But USA passport holders enjoy visa exemption for 48 hours transit in Shanghai. You stay in Shanghai for 41 hours counted from 3:00pm on May 30, 2011 to 8:00am on June 1, 2011.
