About:Chinese Consulate in New York

We have a connecting flight in Shanghai (from NYC) to Australia. The flight lands at 7.30 PM and the connecting flight is at 8.15 PM which the airlines say we can not make. The next flight is the following evening at 8.15. This means we will be in China for more than 24 hours. As we are still in transit - though we will stay one night in Shanghai - will there be a problem as we will not have a visa?
thank you

Please don't worry, a transit visa is not required for USA passport holders who transit Shanghai for less than 48 hours. You can also go out the airport to visit Shanghai and stay at a hotel.
