Hi,
I am an Irish passport holder and will be in transit in Shanghai airport for approximately 18 hours. My flight arrives at 6pm and the connecting flight is at 10am the next day. I would like to be able to leave the aiport in the interim. How do I obtain a transit visa? I am flying from Australia back to the UK.

Apply for the visa in advance at Chinese Embassy in your place. It is about 30USD for one-entry transit visa. You need your passport, fill visa application, connecting flights and 2*2inch picture.
