About:Chinese Embassy in South Korea

Hi -

My name is Ellie. I am an American citizen and hold a US passport. I am currently living and working in South Korea. I was planning to go to China during the May Korean holidays to see the Great Wall - as that is the only time I can get vacation from my job. This leaves 5 months on my ARC card which expires Sept. 19 2011. My questions are:
1. Why can't I go to China unless I have an ARC valid for 6 months?
2. Will I be eligible to go with my US passport on Sept. 20, 2011 as a US tourist (Once I no longer use and ARC card)?
3. What other alternatives are there for me or anyone who wants to travel to China as a tourist for 5 - 10 days?

Any information would be appreciated~!

1. it is the rule of China embassy in Seoul China consulate in Busan, it asks the ARC with at least 6 months remaining validity, the rule seems ridiculous, but we can't change it or do anything

2. you are not eligible to go with your US passport on Sept. 20, 2011 as a US tourist if you can't obtain a China tourist visa

3. there are two options for you to choose,
mail back your passport to US and obtain visa through China
embassy/consulate in USA,
go to Hong Kong to apply for tourist visa, then go to China.
