About:China Transit Visa

Can you please confirm that as an American citizen arriving from Geneva, Switzerland on May 3 in Shanghai (PVE) with a flight continuing to Macau on May 4, where I am invited to give a lecture on May 5 and 6 (as in letter of invitation), I will be able to leave the airport and find a hotel for the night of May 3 and then return for my flight on May 4?

Thank you!

yes, sir. You are not required to apply for a transit visa in this case. Just show them your valid passport and ticket to Macao.
