About:Beijing Attractions

Hi, I have the chance to visit Beijing in early June, to attend a 2-day event. I am considering the idea to take my two sons (14 and 8), but my wife won't be able to join us. In this case, I would be going 7 or 8 days, and spend the 5-6 days before the event sightseeing with them (none of us has been in China before). I was however wondering if one week in Beijing is not too much for first-timers, with two kids. I read about all the great attractions, eg Forbidden City, Great Wall, etc, but am still unsure that after 3-4 days they will not be bored and ready to go (in which case, maybe I take them along this time is not such a good idea, and I could leave it for a later opportunity). Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome; thanks!

I think you can take them with you, 5-6 days is a little bit long for them to stay in Beijing, but you take them to Xian or Shanghai to spend 1-2 days as well. There are overlight trains between Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Xian. I also advise you take part in a tour to have a happy and smooth travel if your are first time to China.
