About:China Visa Fees

I have overstayed my tourist visa twice in a one-year period. First time was by a day. Second time was by a day also, but added several days because of Spring Festival and the PSB being closed.

I have received an exit visa, and exited China. The exit visa has an obvious black asterisk within parentheses. The Chinese embassy in Hong Kong tells me I cannot get a visa from any "third country" (a country not China and not my home country USA).

The trouble and lack of concrete information is obviously part of the punishment, and I have very much learned my lesson. My goal now is only to get back to China to my wife (I want to work and live there).

If I get a new passport, will I be able to acquire a visa in Hong Kong?
Will I be able to acquire a visa sooner/easier if I have a new passport?

Yes, if you get a new passport, it will be easier for you to acquire a visa. You'd better wait for 3 months, then apply for a visa to get back to China.

Please don't overstay again in China, once you have the record of overstay, it is very complex.

Thank you Mrs. Elliot.

If I used a new passport to immediately apply for a new visa, would this be detrimental to my record?
Would it be best to try getting a visa in Hong Kong with a new passport, or in the United States?

I've noticed your responses to several Chinese visa questions. I'm curious how you know so much, but I understand if you are not at liberty to divulge.

An update (for those curious):

I am returning to my home country to apply for a Chinese visa. The Chinese consulate nearest my home in the USA confirms that if I send the pasport with an agency, the Consulate may request me to appear in person. They will not confirm or guarantee any other information (i.e. when I can get a visa). I have refrained from asking any body of the Chinese government if a new passport will help (the PSB knew I had overstayed twice even though my previous overstay was on a previous passport, so a new passport seems futile).

I assume I will need to explain my overstay and reasons for wanting to return, but am unsure what will really happen. I will tell the results here after I have applied at the Chinese consulate in the USA.
