About:Chinese Consulate in Brisbane

Dear Sirs and Madams,
We're Australian citizens, traveling from Australia to Russia and have a stop-over in Guangzhou airport. As our stop there is from 4 PM till 1 PM of the next day we planned to book a hotel for this night. I found this information:

(4) Foreigners who have confirmed onward tickets and seats on international flights and directly transit through China and stay for no more than 24 hours within the airport boundaries shall not need to apply for a transit visa. Anyone desiring to go beyond the airport boundaries temporarily should obtain permission from the frontier inspection office.

Must we apply for Chinese transit visa in Australia still or it will be enough the hotel booking for the frontier inspection to leave the airport?
Thank you.

It is enough for you to get permission from the frontier inspection office to stay in a hotel, it is advisable to book a hotel located within the Guangzhou airport, such as Pullman Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, Guang Sha Hotel, you can show your confirmed onward tickets, the hotel booking to immigration officers to prove your transit. It is not hard for you to get 1 day stay permit.
