About:Chinese Embassy in Australia

My wife and I will be sailing through Shanghai on the 25th March 2011 on Princess Cruise Line and our itinerary states that we will be in Shanghai from 0600 hours to 2359 hours do we need a visa for this transit stop over.

yes, you need a China Travel Visa(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/tourist.htm) for the stopover in Shanghai from 06:00 to 23:59. You can plan one day Shanghai Tour(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/package/shanghai.htm) during the layover to admire this big city in China.
