An old tale says that all the animals in the jungle decided to see who was best by racing across the river. At first the rat was loosing, and he realised that he couldn't win as he was too weak.
So the rat jumped on the ox (who was winning) and got on to it's head. Just before the ox reached the shore the rat jumped of his head and onto the shore, therefore winning the race. Hope it helps!0

There are several versions of this story. The animals were invited to lunch, they were the only ones who went to see Buddha, and others. There is one that explains why cats chase rats, and why Oxen and Rats get along...etc.0
