From Shanghai to Nanning, both train and flight are available. Personally, it will be more convenient to take a flight as there are several flights available daily between these two cities. And it only costs you about 3 hrs. To Vietnam, Nanning maybe is the closest big city in China. For the flight schedule, you may search on this page by yourself.
