About:Dual Nationality

I was born in the Philippines. My mom uses an ACR (Alien Certificate of Registry)in the Philippines through the years. She owns a Chinese passport but I think is for Taiwan or something. My dad is Filipino citizen but is also naturalized Chinese.

My girlfriend is from Sichuan and i have been working in Shanghai for 3 years now and only went home once.

How do I get Permanent residence or is it even possible? It is not hard to get a 1 year working visa every year but it's all the psychological feeling that bothers me.

I love my future wife, and I need to take care of her all the way to my dying years. If i can't assure her that I can stay in China forever, to take care of her, then there's no assurance whatsoever.

We plan to get married next year but I also heard, marrying does not mean automatic residency. Does this mean if she marries me she turns itto a Filipino citizen or we have a choice.

Thank you so much. need you professional comment.

It's said that only a foreigner who has lived 5 years contiguously in China and is a desirable person may obtain permanent residency. In practice it seems that very few people are able to achieve this status. Unless those who have made massive investments which have generated substantial profit to China and you have good connections with the establishment, it seems you are unlikely to succeed.
