About:Chinese Embassy in Switzerland

hi. I'll fly to Australia soon and have a stop-over in Shanghai. there I have about 12hours time.. do I need a visa for such a short time?
My friend from Germany said that when she took the same flight last year, she didn't need a visa for such a short time in Shanghai. She only had to show her flight ticket to Australia. Is that the same for Swiss citizens?
thanks!

Yes, you are not required visa if you will not leave the airport.

hi, ups.. I think, I didn't make myself clear. I don't want to stay in the airport for 12 hours. My friend was allowed to see the city and return to the airport without a visa.
Is that also possible for me?
thanks again
