Hi, we are planning a group challenge trek to the Great Wall of China for 12 people next june. We want to do all the main Bejiing sections, and prefereably a few outside of Bejiing as well (to make around 8 days trekking). Which order should we do the sections in? which sections are worth trekking outside of bejiing? and is possible to stay the nights at each section locally and move on to the next section each day? or is it necessary to commute to each section from bejiing? Can you recommend some places to stay for each section? many thanks.

Hi, Ms Cox, 8 days treking will let you see the difference of Great Wall. I recommend some treking seaction: Huanghuacheng - Jiankou - Mutianyu, Jinshanling - Gubeikou, Huangyaguan (in JIxian County, Tianjin) and a part of old wall built during Northern Qi Dynasty in the year of 550. It is possible to stay the night at each section and move on the next one. However, I think it is better to commute each section from Beijing because the transportation between each section of the Great Wall is not convenient and you may have to go back to the city center of Beijing for transfer. One day is enough for Jinshanling - Gubeikou. Simatai is undergoing a renovation right now. If it is open again next June, you may added it to this trekking part. Huanghuangcheng-Jiankou-Mutianyu need 2 days at least. You can stay in the village near Jiankou. I think you need Great Wall maps(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/china_great_wall/map/beijing.htm) to get a general idea. As to the Jixian part, pepare 2-3 days. Is there local member in your team? transport commute will be a problem. Anyway, you should work out the plan and get clear about the routes in advance.
