By ID Card I mean my Alien ID card I was issued to work in South Korea, I have read that I need 6 months left on it in order to get a Chinese tourist visa since I am living in a country that I am not a citizen in.

Hi, what do you mean by ID card? As i know, only Chinese citizen have ID card. If you want to travel China, then you only need to hold a passport and apply for a Chinese visa..
