hi, i'd like to go to the shanghai gifts and premiums fair starting on jan 12, 2011. i have registered for the fair on the internet and have been given a confirmation number.i also have a hotel booking.would i need anything thing else apart from a round-trip ticket and passport photograph.

The Confirmation Number is useless for China Business Visa Application(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/business.htm) you have to contact a China company which can obtain Visa Notification Form which is the most important document for application.
