About:Chinese Embassy in South Korea

hey,
I am an American teaching in Korea since last March and want to travel to Hong Kong for winter break. My friend said that I can no longer get a travel visa to China because I have been living in Korea for more than 6 months...Is this right? also lost my alien ID card, Do I need this to get into China or just my passport?

You don't need to apply for Hong Kong visa(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/hongkong.htm) because USA nationals are exempt from a visa to Hong Kong for up to 90 days. If you also want to go to Mainland China besides Hong Kong, you need to apply for China visa(https://www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa.htm) in Seoul, the Alien ID card valid for at least 6 months is required, otherwise, your application will be denied.
