About:Baggage Allowance for International Flights

We are travelling from uk to canada skiing and would like to know if we can take our ski boots as an extra check-in bag. If so do we have to pay for this or is it within our allowance.

It is up to the regulation of airlines. Is that counting in the weight but not how many pieces?
