About:Chinese Opera

Hello,

My name is Imogen and i am also doing the International Baccalaureate in Australia with Theatre as one of my main subjects.
I am studying Cantonese opera and particularly focusing on 'The FLower Princess' production by Tong Dik Sang. I was wondering if it wouldn't be too much trouble for you to give me some extra information on the costume element of Cantonese Operas? If possible, including things such as the significance of the different parts of the costumes for the different characters, etc.

It would be very appreciated if this were possible.

I hope to hear from you soon,
Yours sincerely, Imogen Scully.

As I know, there is not big difference in costumes between Peking Opera and Cantonsese Opera. However, Peking Opera costume are more delicate (so as to make-up). There is restrict rules and clear difference among difference roles in Peking Opera. Cantonese opera is weaker on this. In some Cantonese operas, you may find Qing Dynasty style costumes appearing with Han styles or even other dynasties costumes in the same stage.
