I am in St. Petersburg, and would like to obtain a chinese tourist visa for my canadian passport from the chinese consulate here in SP.  Can you tell me where to get an invite which I have never required before for china?

If you can't provide invitation letter from a China travel agency, you can provide 2-way flight tickets and hotel reservation for China tourist visa application.
