About:Chinese Embassy in India

Hi,
I am Dushyant Arora from New Delhi, India. I wish to visit Shanghai, China for a conference. I have read the Chinese Embassy website and I know the documents required for getting a "F" Visa. The website says that the Embassy needs a Covering letter from applicant's company or employer addressed to visa office. My problem is I am not currently employed at any company. I am also not a student presently. I am in between jobs right now. I need to know if it is possible to procure a visa without the letter, if I can explain my situation. If it is not possible, my co-author will go for the conference. He can get all the documents but he might be busy at the time of conference. I would like to know if I can be granted a Visa otherwise my co-author will have to go instead of me. I would really appreciate any help here. I am very confused.
Best,
Dushyant

Without the Covering letter from your company or office with the details of the visiting purpose, you can't get a Business Visa to China.
