I want a one day tour to Hangzhou from Shanghai... Whats the possible mode of transport and how much time would it take to reach Hangzhou and be back the same day... What're the prominent places to be visited there??

Take D trains between Shanghai and Hangzhou, it only takes 1.5 hours or so for one way trip. One day is enough to see the West Lake on the loop road and you can see Qing He Fang. Then get back to Shanghai.
