I'm foreigner currently working in Japan, and I was wondering if it's okay to apply for a visa at the China Embassy in Tokyo instead of the Consulate that officially manages the area I am living in? Do you have to live in the jurisdiction areas of the Embassy in Tokyo in order to obtain a visa from there?

That is highly...inconvenient. :( There is no Consulate in the city where I live, so I would have to travel the the closest one (Fukuoka). I thought since I would be going to Tokyo for work trip, I could just get it done there but I guess not.... Thanks for the reply anyway.

You should apply for China visa according to the consular district, if you don't live in the consular jurisdiction of China Embassy in Tokyo, you can't apply for China visa from embassy in Tokyo.
