You can go to Shanghai Old Street, Yuyuan Garden, and also you can explore some place yourself, there are many historic sights in Shanghai. For other things, the Bund would be a good choice, The oriental pearls TV Tower is also good.

Hey Mr. Mahbub,
just returned from my trip from China. We stay several days in Shanghai. This is what I can tell you. Very few people speak English and the one that do is very limited. Taxi drivers don't speak it at all. Due to the Expo hotels are very busy and receptionists are not able to pay you attention. This is different if you go to other cities English speaking hotel staff are much more helpful.
There is so many thinks to see and so many pictures to take. We are not professional photographers and took 1400 pictures.
My advise is: Organize your trip before you go and get you a guide and driver to take you where you would like to go.
Don't expect to do that there Shanghai is so busy and if you don't speak the language you are lost. We have a driver and tour guide and they took us everywhere. My email is aol.com|Faithgita if you have some questions. Maria

Thanx Mr. Michael..

Hi Faithgita,

Thank you so much. You got my point actually. The first problem is language, thats why I asked for a guide.
Hotel is booked "Oriental Riverside". No prob. Actually I m invited by an organization. They arranged everything for first 3 days. But I wanna extend the tour to explore some extra places. Thats why need an english speaking guide / Taxi Driver.

Ok boss, I m mailling u.

Shanghai is a great city, very beautiful and nice. You dont have to worry about the travelling. Just take the subway. It is faster and easier. The Yuyan gardens are great. lots of chinese architecture and culture around it. People speak very few words of english but you can get around, not to worry. Good luck

Hi there - I'm in Shanghai right now and I'm surprised about the hotel staff comments. Although English is not widely spoken, our hotel staff have been wonderful in instructing the taxi drivers where to go and then thr room key has directions in Chinese to come back to the hotel - pretty straight forward. A lot of people in shops speak a little English so we haven't found it that bad (that's markets as well as higher class places). always grab the calculator to enter your bargain price, no need to speak at all really!

However, if you are a photographer then one place that you really should visit outside of Shanghai is the beautiful 1000 year old water village of Zhou Zhuang. It's now very famous - from about 1980 when the American businessman Armand Hammer presented then Prime Minister Deng Xiaoping with a painting of the Double Bridge done by Chinese American Artist Chen Yifei. Lots of Chinese visitng but well worthwhile a trip - there are many tours with English speaking guides to this area.

Hope this is a help
